Gateway to Ōtori: Dojima GP660 Taiyōken

As I work on a world primer for my 'Japan that never will be' setting, Gateway to Ōtori, I'd like to create some supplementary lore both as a means of worldbuilding and to give me more things to model in Blender. To kick things off, here is the Dojima GP660 Taiyōken, a handgun developed by Dojima Steelworks for the Imperial Army.

Developed in Kōki 2717 to replace the aging Iga GP10, the Dojima Family won the honor of creating the GP560 Handgun for the Grand Army of the Shogunate. Dojima Steelworks created two variants: The initial GP560 for the Army, and then a Samurai-exclusive improved variant known as the GP660 Taiyōken.

The GP560 is bulkier than the former GP10, but has comparative weight despite its size. Its primary claim to fame is the tri-dot laser sight integrated into the vented area beneath the lower barrel, which on the 560 serves no additional purpose besides housing the laser sight.

While both variants fire a standardized 7.62mm Caseless projectile, the GP660 Taiyōken comes equipped with two Magatama chargers, making use of recent Bureau of Onmyō advances to prime and activate two awoken Magatama, enhancing rounds with incredible effects.

The GP660 houses six primer cartridges in the laser sight housing beneath its barrel, which can be used to prime and activate one or more inserted Magatamas in the weapon’s charging slots. The GP660 is shipped with two Gold Magatama, which imbue projectiles with an armor-piercing effect. A Jade Magatama may be loaded and activated to enchant rounds to expand on impact, while a Ruby Magatama may be loaded and activated to create incendiary rounds.

If both the Jade and Ruby Magatamas are primed at once, projectiles inherit both abilities, and gain explosive power effective against warbots, soft vehicles and light cover. While the GP660 can only load six primer cartridges at once, the Magatamas can technically be activated without them, though at significant risk to the wielder.

This model was developed over about 10 hours on a snowy weekend. The modeling and texturing was all done in Blender.
